Former prizefighter Armando Muniz reached the quarterfinals of the 1968 Olympics as a welterweight boxer, but now he represents his community in a different ring –he has served as a board member of the Rubidoux Community Services District since 1992.

Muniz attended Cerritos Jr. College and earned a wrestling
scholarship to the University of California Los Angeles.  Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, he used his amateur boxing skills to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team and later won a number of military and national championships. After his military service, he earned his degree in Spanish from Cal State University and later received his Masters in Educational Administration from National University.  He was an educator and wrestling coach at Rubidoux High School prior to his retirement in 2008.

Outside of the classroom and the boardroom, Muniz is actively engaged in his community.  He participates in numerous organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Jurupa Lions Club, and the Jurupa Valley Boxing Club, where he shares his international boxing experience with local community members.  He is a proud inductee in the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

As a member of the Rubidoux Community Services District Board of Directors, Muniz has focused on using his public service as a means to help those in need.  By being part of the organization, he hopes to continue to enact meaningful change for his community.

He has three children with his wife, Yolanda, and five
grandchildren.
